Consider how this title contributes and energises the themes within the text.
For those of you that weren't in the lesson, we looked at the opening to sections 1 and 6 and made comparisons. There a a range of links. How does this vivid description of setting contribute to theme?
Also, consider the significance of starting and ending in the same place. What is the impact of this cyclical narrative?

I am planning my essay and i have run out of ideas that i could write about, here are the ones i have now :
ReplyDeleteMinor characters-Curleys wife having the passion to talk
How Crooks is lonely because he is discriminated
Foreshadowing-Candys dog getting shot
George and Lennie are completley diffrent than the other guys because they stick together
I just need one or two more simple ideas . thank you
This seems totally adequate! Think about how many words you are going to use for each paragraph. If you are writing in extensive detail - which you should be - this should fit the bill. Your aim is about 1200.
ReplyDeleteSome other ideas though as you may be able to write about more about these:
Steinbeck's use of dialogue (stilted communication in the bunkhouse when Candy's dog is killed)
Steinbeck's use of setting, beginning and the end and the links. Tragedies may happen, but the beauty of nature/ natural world will outlast mans' petty cruelties.
The choice of title and Burn's poem.
Steinbeck's cyclical narrative and how this makes it seems that small tragedies will continue to happen if we cannot understand each other (this quote is significant and you should have it in your book). This is amplified by the final words in the novel.
Does this help?
Thank you very much,it helped a great deal
